The crime is seen not only as an irreparable loss but as a clear act of structural violence against Trans women, exacerbated by widespread extortion and impunity in the city’s vulnerable zones.
Details of the Crime and Extortion Link
According to preliminary testimonies from other Trans women who contacted Silueta X, the murder occurred near the Hotel Oro Verde after Becky G was confronted by several individuals allegedly linked to local extortion networks.
The killing was reportedly triggered when Becky refused to pay a “vacuna” (an economic extortion fee) demanded by the attackers. In retaliation, the assailants brutally assaulted and shot her at point-blank range, leaving her body on the pavement. The finding of Becky’s body in a lateral decubitus, fetal position is cited by the Association as a painful indicator of the extreme agony she suffered.
Becky G resided in the same sector and was known on social media for proudly sharing her life, including tender images and videos of her kitten, reflecting her warmth and resilience amidst daily struggles.
Alarming Context and Systemic Crisis
This Transfeminicide tragically brings the tally to at least 14 cases of violent murders against Trans and LGBT+ individuals recorded in Ecuador so far in 2025, according to preliminary data from the Silueta X Runa Sipiy Report.
The organization notes that the escalation of Transphobia and organized criminality—including sicariato (contract killing) and extortion—are intersecting to annihilate lives like Becky’s, particularly in marginalized sectors where the state appears absent.
Silueta X Demands Immediate Action
The Silueta X Association demands urgent responses from the government:
- Immediate and Exhaustive Investigation: The State Attorney General’s Office and National Police must apply a differential focus on Hate Crimes and Transphobia. The investigation must identify and prosecute all responsible parties, including the extortion networks operating in the 1° de Mayo sector.
- Urgent Protection: Implementation of security protocols and guaranteed access to justice without re-victimization for Trans sex workers in Guayaquil.
- Government Accountability: A direct call was made to the new Subsecretary of Diversities in the Vice-Ministry of Women and Human Rights to personally take charge of these events that are grieving the LGBT+ community.
