Guayaquil, Ecuador – The Silueta X Association, a member of the Ecuadorian Federation of LGBT+ Organizations, has voiced profound outrage and grief over the apparent violent death of Kendra (K.C.), an Afro-descendant Trans woman from Guayaquil. Initial information, provided by local LGBT+ community communicators through an early warning system, led the organization to activate immediate monitoring and support mechanisms for the case.
Brutality and Systemic Violence
Preliminary reports indicate that a body, severely decomposed and missing limbs, was discovered on Avenida Casuarinas in the area notoriously known as the “Canal de la Muerte” (Death Canal)—a location tragically famous for the accumulation of victims of extreme violence. Kendra had been previously reported missing.
While few details are confirmed due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, the initial evidence and the context of her recent disappearance point toward a possible Transfeminicide motivated by both transphobic and racist hatred.
Intersectional Discrimination
Silueta X stresses that Kendra, like many Afro-descendant Trans women in Ecuador, faced daily intersectional discrimination, social exclusion, and extreme risks derived from her gender identity and ethnic origin.
“Her loss is not an isolated event but part of a systemic crisis that terrifies us and obligates us to act. Impunity in these crimes is unacceptable,” stated the Association.
Urgent Demands to State Authorities
Silueta X, along with the Ecuadorian Federation of LGBT+, is demanding immediate and rigorous action from the competent authorities—including the Attorney General’s Office, the National Police, and the Ministry of Government:
- Exhaustive Investigation: The case must be classified as Transfeminicide and a Hate Crime, applying the aggravating factor for gender and ethnic discrimination.
- Integral Protection Measures: Implementation of immediate alert protocols for Trans individuals currently in high-risk situations.
- Urgent Training: Mandatory training for law enforcement agencies to eradicate institutional Transphobia and guarantee diversity-sensitive responses.
Silueta X calls upon civil society, the media, and international allies to amplify the visibility of this crisis, fighting for life, dignity, and justice.
