Ecuador Trans Violence Crisis 2026: Runa Sipiy Observatory Report

Ecuador is not a safe destination for LGBTIQ+ migrants. Runa Sipiy Observatory reports 7 LGBT+ murders in just 89 days of 2026, with 85.7% being trans women. A 15-year-old trans teenager became the youngest victim ever recorded. The country’s impunity rate exceeds 90%. Silueta X and Cámara Plus Ecuador document what the State refuses to see.

The Runa Sipiy Observatory, administered by Asociación Silueta X since 2013, is the only sustained community monitoring system for violent deaths of LGBTIQ+ persons with national coverage in Ecuador.

Key Data 2026 (Jan-Mar):

  • 7 LGBT+ persons murdered in 89 days
  • 85.7% were trans women
  • All 6 transfemicides involved firearms or sicario-style executions
  • Youngest victim ever recorded: 15 years old
  • Impunity rate exceeds 90%

Silueta X and Cámara Plus Ecuador call for immediate action: classification of transfemicidio as autonomous legal category, implementation of the Adolescent Trans sentence, and specialized prosecutors for hate crimes.
