The Silueta X Association, a key member of the Ecuadorian LGBT Federation, has voiced profound grief and indignation following the murder of Sasha C.O. Chung Ordóñez, a 25-year-old trans woman and beloved local stylist. Chung was fatally shot on the night of Saturday, November 8, 2025, in the Bellavista sector of Ventanas, Los Ríos province. The organization is demanding authorities investigate the crime as a potential Transfeminicide or hate crime.
Sasha, known for her joy, charisma, and authenticity, has been added to the painful list of victims of escalating violence that particularly targets the Trans population in Ecuador. The crime is especially alarming given the severe increase in insecurity affecting the Los Ríos province.
Diane Rodríguez, President of the Silueta X Association, issued a strong statement following the tragedy:
“The murder of Sasha Chung Ordóñez is a brutal reminder of the vulnerability facing Trans people in Ecuador. Sasha was a light in her community, and her violent passing wounds us deeply. We demand that Los Ríos authorities launch an immediate and exhaustive investigation to determine if this attack was directed against her due to her gender identity, which would constitute a Transfeminicide or hate crime. Impunity only perpetuates violence. Sasha’s life, and that of any Trans person, is non-negotiable! We demand real justice and urgent protective measures.”
In immediate response to this and other recent hate crimes, Cattleya Ávila, Miss Trans CoaliTrans, called upon citizens and activists to unite in an act of memory and justice:
“Violence is snatching away our sisters. We cannot remain silent while they continue to kill us. For Sasha, and for all victims of anti-Trans violence, we call for the Trans Pride Ecuador Vigil and Procession. We invite all citizens to raise their voices on Saturday, November 29, at 4:00 PM, outside the Guayas Provincial Court and the Guayas Culture House in Guayaquil. We want justice, we want peace, and we want to live without fear. Not one more!”
